November TGIT

Thursday, November 6 • 5 PM
Cranky Al’s

TETNA’s T.G.I.T. (Thank God It’s Thursday) is scheduled for November 6, 2008 at Cranky Al’s starting at 5pm. This is an in-formal social event with no meeting structure, just a get together to have something to drink and/or eat (buy your own) and meet some neighbors.  TETNA is trying this on a Thursday evening instead of a Friday, thus it’s called TGIT !!!

Donate during Halloween

Please bring an item to donate for Tosa Cares (formerly known as TOSA for Kids) during Halloween registration. The Tosa Cares organization is child-focused and most clients are referred by the school district. Along with canned and dry foods, they collect school supplies and are starting a warm-clothing drive.

Even if you are not registering for Halloween, consider dropping off a donation. Registration times are Tuesday, Oct. 21, 6:30 to 8:00pm; Thursday, Oct. 23, 6:30 to 8:00pm; and Saturday, Oct. 25, 8:30 to 10am.

2008 Blood Drive a Success

Jake’s Blood Drive, held October 4th at Roosevelt, was a great success. 80 donors were registered, and the Blood Center was able to collect 75 units of blood. Jennifer Aldrich, Jake’s mom, shared that this was their best turnout yet!

TETNA will continue to support Jake’s bi-annual blood drives, the next of which will be held in April (watch the newsletter and website for a specific date). If you are interested in recruiting donors, helping with daycare the day of the event, or would like to set an appointment to donate blood, please contact Jennifer by using the form below.

Blood donations save lives. Many of you are familiar with the fact that transfusions are used after car accidents and emergency surgeries, but there are other uses as well. Jake receives transfusions to fight the side effects of the chemotherapy he is undergoing to treat childhood cancer. If you’ve never made a blood donation, please visit bcw.edu to learn more about the process, and some of the people you might be helping.

Thanks to all of those that donated, or helped out with the drive. Please continue to support Jake and his family by continuing with your blood donations through Blood Center of Wisconsin.

October President’s Message

Hello, TETNA!

A great big thanks go out to some of our very own TETNA people. Thank you to Heidi Hudson-Mairet for organizing the Rummage Sale in June. What a great turn-out!

Katherine Lazarski did a fabulous job on Family Fun Day. The kids were out in droves. The balloons were flying and piñatas popping. Families who attended saw lots of new games and some really cool crafts were added this year. A jazz guitarist and percussionist set the scene. Thanks, Katherine, for all that you did to make the day fun!

2008 TETNA Blood Drive

Saturday, Oct. 4
9am-2pm
Roosevelt Elementary

“I want to give back to the community” is the reason many of us choose to donate blood. Or perhaps you know someone who has received help from Blood Center of Wisconsin. Jennifer Aldrich is someone who has said both things.

Jennifer’s son, Jakob, was diagnosed in November of 2005 with a rare form of soft tissue childhood cancer. He underwent treatment (including receiving blood products) at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin through September of 2006. Jakob had a relapse in January of 2007, and received treatment a second time.

TETNA has decided to focus our efforts on helping to make Jennifer’s biannual blood drives at Roosevelt Elementary a success. Those of you that expressed interest in volunteering and/or participating will receive a call in the near future.

The fall blood is drive is scheduled for Saturday, October 4th from 9am-2pm at Roosevelt Elementary. Please call the Blood Center at 933-5000 to make an appointment (recommended), or just walk in using the 74th Street entrance. Child care and homemade treats will be provided.

Let’s make this blood drive a success—give back to the community and support “one of our own!”
